As we know, reducing our carbon footprint and environmental impact is at the top of the agenda for most nations. Because of that, businesses around the world are under increased pressure to meet new environmental targets and to trade responsibly.
The telecoms industry is no exception. And one technology that’s in the sights of most responsible telecom businesses, is the diesel generator. For 20 years, diesel generators have been the dominant technology to support off-grid or poor-grid telecom base stations. But, they are now hugely compromised – they’re costly, noisy and because they are fossil fuel based, they’re highly polluting too.
To solve this, we recently launched the GenCell A5, the world’s first affordable off-grid primary power alternative to diesel generators. The A5 provides cost-effective, ultra-reliable, noise-free and weather-independent power for off-grid and poor-grid telecom base stations at a lower OPEX than diesel generators.
Adrian Kenya is the latest customer to adopt our technology. For its 800 rural base stations across Kenya, it is swapping its diesel generators for green fuel cell power. This change alone will enable them to realize expected savings of $84 million over 10 years, but from an environmental perspective, it will also reduce their carbon footprint by a massive 248,000 tons1.
