GenCell BOX™ Powers European Telecom Site

A leading European telecom provider deployed the GenCell BOX™ to test on-site how hybrid renewable power sources integrate electricity from solar PV panels, wind, lithium-ion batteries and fuel cells for optimal telecom power resilience.

The project demonstrated that

• The combination of solar PV and hydrogen fuel cells prove to be very complementary in conditions of variable irradiance;
• The fuel cell carries the load at night and the solar PV during strong daylight;
• The tests prove the justification of operating a green microgrid as a hybrid renewable energy system to power continuous connectivity for grid-independent telecom operations;
• In Summer the fuel cell acts as an EPS (emergency power system); in winter conditions the fuel cell regularly contributes power capacity for the load.
