GENCELL ENERGY SUPPLIES RESILIENT ALL-WEATHER POWER TO DELTA LAND DEVELOPMENT’S FULLY ZERO-EMISSIONS, HYPER-HIGH PERFORMANCE SUSTAINABLE OFF-GRID HYBRID POWER DEMONSTRATION PROJECT

Delta Land Development Relies on GenCell Hydrogen Fuel Cells to Complement PV and Battery System at Off-Grid Vancouver Residence

Petah Tikva, Israel – December  7, 2020 – GenCell Energy, GNCL (TASE), a leading Israel-based manufacturer of fuel cell energy solutions, today announces its latest deployment in North America: Delta Land Development Ltd., the North American division of the Delta Group of Companies, a prominent global firm with diverse interests in real estate development and investment, management and industry, has deployed the GenCell G5, a hydrogen fuel cell-based long-duration UPS to provide zero-emission, sustainable power for a 32kW PV (photovoltaic) and battery powered off-grid demonstration project at a hyper-high performance residence being constructed in the Soo Valley in British Columbia.  Delta Land offers premium land development projects that create lasting value legacy, focus on sustainability and provide a superb living environment. In line with this approach, Delta Land chose the GenCell G5 to ensure zero-emissions, no noise fuel cell power for their industry-leading higher performance demonstration home.

Since the house is located in a deep valley that is sunlight-deficient during the winter, at times the energy collected by the PV and battery system will not meet the house’s power consumption requirements; at such times, the GenCell G5 will kick in to supply power. Typically, an installation like this would utilize a diesel generator, but for this fully zero-emissions, hyper-high performance and sustainable, zero-carbon demonstration project, Delta Land Development sought a clean power solution.  After researching a variety of other sustainable energy alternatives, Delta Land decided on a hydrogen fuel cell and determined that the G5 solution is best suited to provide a complementary stand-alone pre-packaged energy solution.

The key values of the GenCell G5 for this project include its resilience in the face of severe weather and its ability to integrate with the PV and battery power system.  The G5 can automatically kick in and charge the system at a pre-set battery capacity.  The GenCell team took full responsibility for equipment supply, installation and commissioning; GenCell’s engineering staff’s experience and expertise were instrumental and greatly appreciated throughout the installation process, as was their flexibility to accommodate modifications in the customer’s requirements. Notable also that the unit has passed inspection as per CEC (Canada Electrical Codes) and was granted an LC label.

“The GenCell team brought a high level of professionalism and expertise to the Solo project team, helping us stay true to our commitment to deliver a truly zero-emissions outcome, with backup power from the G5 instead of the conventional hydrocarbon-heavy approach of a diesel genset,”   explains Kirk Robinson, Senior VP, Delta Land Development Ltd.

“GenCell Energy is proud that our highly resilient fuel cell was chosen as a critical component of this fully independent, zero-emission off-grid hybrid power solution and expect this showcase project to be the first of many such facilities,” comments Rami Reshef, CEO, GenCell. “Residents’ concerns about sustainability drive demand for renewable energy, and the need to balance intermittent renewable power sources with reliable energy storage solutions drives the demand for fuel cells.  With the price of hydrogen dropping and availability increasing, hybrid solutions combining PV or wind with hydrogen fuel cells are becoming increasingly attractive for commercial and residential properties.  Moreover, in locations where extreme temperatures and weather conditions impact grid stability, fuel cells afford users maximum reliability.”
